Much contemporary wellbeing advice falls apart under deadlines, responsibilities, and the realities of work and family life. It often takes the form of occasional escape positioned outside the rhythm of everyday life, and assumes surplus of time, flexibility, and emotional bandwidth that many people simply do not have.
My work begins from a more realistic understanding — that pressure, responsibility, and limitation are structural features of modern life. I examine how Japanese practices offer practical insights into restoration, rhythm, and recovery in a world shaped by chronic busyness, overload, and burnout.
Drawing on Japanese practices such as onsen bathing, seasonal rhythm, nature immersion, movement, and everyday ritual, I explore how restoration can be consciously reintroduced into modern life. These practices do not disregard responsibility or demand; rather, they create culturally and socially legitimate pauses that interrupt chronic busyness, restore perspective, and re‑establish rhythm.

I develop my work through writing and speaking, bringing cultural interpretation into conversation with contemporary professional life. My approach is to invite reflection: on pace, on limits, and on what forms of self‑care are realistic and sustainable for different individuals and contexts.
My writing work includes The Onsen Experience: A Guide to Japan's Hot Spring Sanctuaries, and the upcoming The Book of Japanese Self-Care (UK/US, Oct 2026), both of which draw on Japanese practices to explore restoration, rhythm and recovery in contemporary life.
